Post 2667 recognized Ashlyn Rusk with the VFW Scout of the Year Award for her achievements in Scouting, school and community service.
A recent graduate of Starr’s Mill High School, Ashlyn earned her Eagle Scout rank in November 2025. Her Eagle Scout project brought pollinator stations and community sharing boxes to the Peachtree City Community Garden, where residents can donate and exchange produce, flowers and other garden items.
Ashlyn’s Scouting journey began in kindergarten and included years in Girl Scouts, numerous leadership roles, and Bronze, Silver and Gold Leadership Torch awards. She joined Scouts BSA in 2019, earned membership in the Order of the Arrow and advanced to Eagle Scout. She continues to help younger Scouts work toward their goals.
Post members presented Ashlyn with a certificate and a monetary award in recognition of her accomplishments. Congratulations, Ashlyn!
The award was featured in the June 3, 2026 edition of The Newnan Times-Herald in an article by Clay Neely. The presentation photo, courtesy of Janet Alford, shows Brian Wade, Carol Yates, Ashlyn Rusk, Dave Newberry and Kelli Kelley.
