Law Enforcement Officer of the Year

Sgt. Michael Condit of the Newnan Police Department has been awarded Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for VFW Post 2667.

Sgt. Condit was nominated by Captain Bradley Thompson based on his dedication to his subordinates and all aspects of his job. Sgt. Condit, a U.S. Army Veteran began his career with the Atlanta Police Department where he served for 7 years. He has been employed with the Newnan Police Department since June 2007.

During this time, he has been assigned to Uniform Patrol and Criminal Investigation Division. He is a Georgia P.O.S.T. Certified Law Enforcement Instructor and the only active arson Investigator with the Newnan Police Department. His current position is as B-Shift Patrol Supervisor in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Captain Thompson recalls a recent incident and noted that Mental Health is something officers deal with on a daily basis and through proper training and available resources our officers are able to give assistance to those in need. One incident recently involved Sgt. Condit responding to an incident where Coweta Cares was requesting assistance with an irate patient who became agitated and violent. After
requesting additional units, Sgt. Condit talked with him for over an hour and was finally able to calm him down enough for him to be transported to a facility for additional help.

Sgt. Condit continues to utilize his level of training, patience, professionalism and care for those he serves on a daily basis. His dedication and excellence in every aspect of his job each day in the performance of all duties is exemplary.
